DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION EXTENDED TO APRIL 15, 2008
The Keep Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Beautiful Scholarship is presented to a senior from Jefferson County that promotes the values and importance of recycling in our community. The scholarship is for $250.00 that may be used by the student in any way necessary to assist them in attending school the following fall. This use can include tuition, books, school supplies, dormitory needs, transportation costs to school, etc.
Eligibility:
Open to any graduating senior residing in Jefferson County who is going on to College or Vocational School.
Student must have volunteered a minimum of 10 hours at the KMVJCB Recycling Center.
To apply:
Student must submit a statement informing the committee of the student’s name, address, telephone number, email address, high school, and college they are planning to attend.
In addition, the student must write a letter to either the Mayor of Mt. Vernon, any Mt. Vernon City Council member or any Jefferson County Council member stating why recycling is important in our community. The letter should be in formal letter format and clearly explain the importance of the issue to the elected official. Please note: these letters will be mailed to the addressee following selection of the scholarship winner.
The student must also submit a letter of recommendation from any teacher at the high school the student has attended. This letter should be in a sealed envelope with the teacher’s signature across the sealed flap.

The decision of the judges is final.
None of the application materials will be returned to the student.
The scholarship winner’s photograph may appear in the newspapers.
The scholarship funds will be presented upon proof of enrollment to a college, university or vocational school.
